Pitru Paksha 2026: Sraddha, Tarpana, Ancestors and the Dharma of Remembrance

Pitṛ Pakṣa is far more than a calendar fortnight of prescriptive ritual; it is a sacred pause that invites us to ask what it means to receive life from those who walked before us. Rooted in the Vedic hymns of the Ṛgveda and the ethical framework of the Pañca-mahāyajñas, ancestral rites transform gratitude into action through Tarpaṇa, Piṇḍa Dāna, and selfless charity. Beyond fear and superstition, Śrāddha calls on every living generation to recognize that we did not begin with ourselves—and to live responsibly so that we become ancestors worthy of remembrance.
