परिचय

About

Lord Vayu is the prominent Vedic deity of the wind and the animating cosmic breath (Prāṇa). In the Rigveda, He is described as a swift and powerful god who rides a shining chariot drawn by thousands of purple and red horses. He is often closely associated with Lord Indra, sharing His chariot and being the first to receive the purifying Soma libations during sacrifices. As the physical manifestation of the wind, He moves unseen, but His presence is felt through His tremendous force, shaking the forests and driving the clouds.

Significance

The significance of Vayu lies in His foundational role as the sustainer of life itself. As the macrocosmic wind, He purifies the atmosphere, brings rain-bearing clouds, and ensures the circulation of elements. On a microcosmic level, He is revered as the vital breath within all living beings, without which life ceases to exist. The Vedic seers invoke Him for health, prolonged life, and inner spiritual vitality. Because He is the silent, penetrating force that connects the physical and spiritual realms, He is deeply revered as the invisible thread holding the universe together.
