The Six Darshanas

The classical schools of philosophy

Six astika darshanas offer complementary paths of reasoning toward liberation.
The shad-darshanas are traditionally paired: Nyaya (logic) & Vaisheshika (categories), Sankhya (enumeration) & Yoga (discipline), Mimamsa (ritual exegesis) & Vedanta (knowledge of Brahman). They are viewed not as rivals but as ascending or complementary viewpoints (darshana = 'way of seeing').

Nyaya–Vaisheshika

Logic, epistemology and the categories of reality.

Sankhya–Yoga

Purusha–Prakriti and the eightfold path of Patanjali.

Mimamsa–Vedanta

Dharma of ritual and the knowledge of Brahman.
