The Hindu Calendar
Lunisolar reckoning of time
The traditional calendar is lunisolar, tracking both the moon's phases and the sun's course.
Months (masa) follow the moon, adjusted to the solar year with an adhika masa. Each month has a shukla (waxing) and krishna (waning) paksha of fifteen tithis. This reckoning governs festivals, vratas and the daily Panchang.
