The Puranas
Ancient lore — the 18 Mahapuranas
The Puranas convey theology, cosmology and devotion through narrative, and are central to popular worship.
Eighteen Mahapuranas (and eighteen Upapuranas) are traditionally attributed to Vyasa. They elaborate the lilas of the deities, sacred geography, vratas and pilgrimage, making the Vedic vision accessible to all.
