Rigveda
The Veda of hymns (rich)
The oldest of the four Vedas — a vast collection of over a thousand suktas of praise to the devatas.
The Rigveda is traditionally held to be the oldest layer of Vedic knowledge, arranged in ten mandalas containing 1,028 suktas and around 10,600 mantras. Its hymns invoke Agni, Indra, Varuna, the Ashwins, Ushas and many devatas, and it preserves the Gayatri and the Purusha and Nasadiya Suktas. It is chiefly the work of the Hotr priest.
