Acharya Shukra

Guru of the Asuras and master of the Sanjeevani Vidya

Introduction to Acharya Shukra

Acharya Shukra (Shukracharya) is the revered preceptor of the Asuras and a master of ancient sciences. Known for his profound devotion to Lord Shiva, he famously obtained the Sanjeevani Vidya, the mystical power to resurrect the dead.

Maharshi Shukracharya, the son of Sage Bhrigu, is one of the most brilliant and complex figures in ancient scriptures. While traditionally serving as the Acharya (guru) of the Asuras, his immense wisdom and mastery over the Shastras are universally acknowledged. He is intrinsically linked to the planet Venus (Shukra) in Jyotisha, symbolising aesthetics, wealth, and diplomacy.

His greatest achievement came through his intense penance to Lord Shiva, which granted him the Mrita-Sanjeevani Vidya—the extraordinary esoteric knowledge to bring the dead back to life. This gave the Asuras a formidable advantage in their cosmic wars against the Devas. Despite his allegiance to the Asuras, Shukracharya is highly respected for his unwavering commitment to his disciples and his monumental contributions to Niti Shastra (political ethics) through the compilation of the Shukra Niti.
