Smriti & Dharmashastra
Remembered texts on dharma and conduct
Smriti ('that which is remembered') includes the Dharmashastras that guide personal and social dharma.
Where shruti is revealed, smriti is composed by sages to apply dharma to time and place. The Dharmashastras (such as the Manusmriti and Yajnavalkya Smriti) and the Kalpa-sutras address duty, ritual and law. They are traditionally held to be subordinate to shruti and adaptable to context (desha-kala).
Dharmashastra
Treatises on dharma, ordered by yuga and context.
Kalpa-sutras
Shrauta, Grhya and Dharma sutras guiding ritual and life.
