Acharya Tiruvalluvar

The Acharya of Tirukkural

Tiruvalluvar as an Acharya

Tiruvalluvar was a revered Acharya who imparted the wisdom of Dharma, Artha, and Kama Shastras through his monumental work, the Tirukkural.

Tiruvalluvar was a revered Tamil poet and philosopher who lived in ancient Tamil Nadu, traditionally associated with Mylapore, Chennai. While his exact time period is debated, scholars generally place him between the 1st century BCE and the 5th century CE. As an Acharya, he composed the Tirukkural to guide humanity. The text is divided into three sections reflecting life's fundamental pursuits: Aram (Dharma), Porul (Artha), and Inbam (Kama). Through these succinct couplets, he distilled complex Shastras into accessible wisdom for righteous living.
