The Upanishads
The knowledge-portion (jnana-kanda) of the Vedas
The Upanishads turn from ritual toward the inner enquiry into Atman and Brahman, forming the basis of Vedanta.
Traditionally counted as 108 (with ten or so principal ones), the Upanishads record dialogues on the nature of the Self (Atman), the Absolute (Brahman) and liberation. They are the seed-texts of the Vedanta darshana and are revered as the culmination of the Vedas (vedanta).
Mahavakyas
Great statements such as 'Tat tvam asi' and 'Aham Brahmasmi'.
Principal Upanishads
