वेदाङ्ग

The Vedangas

The six limbs (auxiliary sciences) of the Veda

The six Vedangas are the supporting sciences of the Veda: Shiksha (phonetics), Kalpa (ritual procedure), Vyakarana (grammar), Nirukta (etymology), Chhandas (metre) and Jyotisha (astronomy/timekeeping). Together they safeguard the correct pronunciation, meaning, metre and application of the Vedic mantras.
