Sri Rudram Chamakam
श्री रुद्रम् चमकम्
The Chamakam constitutes the second half of the Vedic Śrī Rudra-Praśna (Taittirīya Saṁhitā, Kanda 4, Prapathaka 7). While the Namakam dissolves the ego through repeated prostration (namas), the Chamakam reconstructs righteous living by praying for all desirable elements of existence through the litany "ca me" ("and may this be granted to me"). Spanning 11 Anuvakas, it petitions the cosmos for food, vitality, agricultural prosperity, seasons, mental clarity, numbers, yajna implements, and ultimate liberation in the Supreme Reality.
- Tradition
- Vedic / Shaiva / Smarta (Krishna Yajurveda, Taittiriya Samhita)
- Purpose
- Praying for holistic prosperity—material wealth, food security, physical longevity, intellectual brilliance, and progeny. Invocations during sacrificial rites (Havans and Yajnas) for social harmony, bountiful rainfall, and planetary balance. Culminating the process of self-surrender with spiritual liberation (moksha), realizing the unity of individual life with cosmic abundance.

- Vedic Revelation / Taittiriya Shakha of Krishna Yajurveda

May food and generation, ongoing lineage and creative will, heavenly bliss and the supreme summit of reality, omnipresent space and origin at cosmic dissolution, all beings born of the worlds and the Supreme Overlord of creation be attained by me! May Ida invoke the gods, Manu lead the sacrifice, Brihaspati chant the blissful hymns; may the Vishvedevas recite the verses! O Mother Earth, harm me not! Sweet thoughts will I think; sweet deeds will I bring forth; sweet offerings will I carry; sweet words will I speak; sweet speech will I offer to the gods, agreeable to listen to for men! May the gods protect me for radiance; may the ancestors rejoice with me! Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

ContextSri Rudram Chamakam constitutes the seventh Prapathaka of the fourth Kanda in the Taittiriya Samhita of the Krishna Yajurveda. Standing on the spiritual axis of Pravritti (harmonious, righteous action in the world), it derives its title from the repeated cadence Ca me ("and to me may there be granted"). Functioning as the constructive counterpart to Namakam, it articulates 347 distinct prayers for complete human thriving—spanning physical longevity, grains, geological metals, seasonal rhythms, yajna implements, and progressive mathematical orders—dedicating these worldly resources back to cosmic harmony (Yajna) and ultimate liberation.

Homa and Havans: During Sri Rudra Homam, ghee, cooked grains, and sacred samidha are offered into the sacrificial fire with the chanting of each line of Chamakam ending in Svaha.
Material and Spiritual Invocation: Recited by families seeking debt relief, agricultural success, family harmony, physical healing, and the attainment of higher spiritual goals.
