About & Significance

The daughter of Himavan, king of the mountains, Shailaputri is the primordial form of Shakti. Seated on the bull Nandi, holding a trishula and a lotus, she embodies the steadfast ground on which all sadhana is built. She is the reborn Sati, and worship of her on the first night establishes the firmness of one's resolve for the nine nights.
